Nepal Records Highest Single-day Spike of 1,221 COVID-19 Cases, 14 Deaths

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Nepal has recorded the highest single-day coronavirus infections and fatalities on Sunday.

In the last 24-hours, the country has witnessed 1,221 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total cases to 38,561.

With the start of community-level coronavirus transmission, there has been a sudden surge in the number of COVID-19 fatalities in recent weeks.

On August 15, the COVID-19 death toll crossed the 100-mark. However, the deaths doubled within just two weeks and reached 221 on August 30.

In the past 24-hours, Nepal has reported 14 COVID-19 deaths, the highest so far in a day.

Meanwhile, around 267 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the country, taking the total recoveries to 20,822.

Currently, there are 17,518 active cases with 6,900 patients in-home quarantine and 10,612 in isolation wards.

Govt. Suspends Domestic Flights, Long Haul Transportation

In view of rising coronavirus cases in the country, the Nepali Government has decided to withdraw its decision to resume domestic flights and long-haul transportation services from September 1.

Flights

On August 30, the government has decided to suspend the domestic flight operations and long-distance bus services until September 16.

Likewise, the government has announced the closure of educational institutes until September 16.

However, the cabinet meeting has decided to allow international flights to repatriate stranded Nepalis. The concerned airlines must follow the guidelines set by the government to operate any such flights.
