With the ease of lockdown restrictions across the country, the Nepali Tourism Ministry has geared up preparations to jump-start the stalled tourism sector.
In a meeting with the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Directors, Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai directed the Board to develop necessary infrastructures across Kathmandu Valley to accommodate at least 500,000 tourists.
He asked the NTB to submit a report regarding the feasibility of developing the tourism infrastructures, trekking routes, footpaths, and cycling and trail tourism.
The To-do-list is as follows:
- Preparing digital promotional materials in seven languages including Nepali, Hindi, Chinese, Arabic, Portuguese and Spanish
- Preparing virtual tour packages and publicity materials of various tourist destinations including world heritage sites, mountains, wetlands, museums, and parks
- Publishing and disseminating tourism-related research studies, planning reports, and documentaries
- Starting psychosocial counseling services to prevent tourism entrepreneurs and workers from quitting their profession due to the pandemic
- Developing and expanding the network and partnership with tourism organizations in Nepal and abroad
- Improving works of tourism desks in various countries
- Chalking out plans to revive the tourism sector in post-pandemic scenario
Minister Bhattarai also asked the NTB to establish its branch at the province level in coordination with the state government.
Moreover, he urged the Board to cut unnecessary expenses, including the travel expenses of NTB’s officials in domestic and international destinations as the country is being subjected to acute economic austerity.
