The coronavirus pandemic has severely impacted the lives of people in every country, especially people who went abroad for employment and studies.
Likewise, tens of thousands of Nepali workers abroad were reeling under pathetic conditions after losing their jobs.
After several persistent requests by the stranded Nepalis to rescue them, the Nepali Government has started repatriation flights.

So far, the government has repatriated as many as 60,926 Nepalis stranded in around 58 destination countries due to the ongoing pandemic.
According to the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC), the repatriation details are as follows:
- UAE – 16,950
- Malaysia – 9,441
- Saudi Arabia – 9,260
- Kuwait – 6,897
- Qatar – 7,350
- Japan – 1,496
- Australia – 1,235
- South Korea – 1,165
- Bangladesh – 865
- Maldives – 845
- Oman – 667
- US – 591
- Thailand – 326
Likewise, less than 100 Nepalis were repatriated from Iraq, Iran, Ethiopia, Switzerland, Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda, Tunisia, France, Spain, Portugal, and Greece.
However, as per various estimates, thousands of Nepalis are still waiting to return home.
So far, Nepal has reported 54,159 COVID-19 infection cases and 345 deaths cases. Around 1,039 new positive cases and nine deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Currently, there are 15,117 active cases and 38,697 recovery cases in the country.
