The Nepali Government garnered massive criticism from the public and stakeholders after it decided not to bear treatment expenditure of COVID-19 patients unless in exceptional cases.
To stop growing criticism, the government yesterday directed hospitals across the country to provide free COVID-19 treatment if the patients couldn’t afford it.
According to the Chief of the Health Ministry’s Incident Command System, Dr. Guna Raj Lohani, a patient’s self-declaration is enough to get free COVID-19 treatment whenever they cannot afford it.
“The rule applies to all government and private hospitals and medical colleges,” said Dr. Lohani.
“The Health Ministry has received complaints that some hospitals demanded a certain charge before the treatment, thereby depriving some patients of remedy,” he added.
Meanwhile, PM Oli said that the new decision would assure that no patient will be deprived of the Covid-19 test and treatment.
Nepal Reports 2,856 New Cases, 5 Deaths!
In the last 24 hours, the Nepali Government has reported 2,856 new coronavirus cases, pushing the country’s total caseload to 158,089. The death toll reached 847 after five patients lost their lives while undergoing treatment on Sunday.
Meanwhile, 3,336 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the country after a successful recovery in the last 24 hours. The recovery cases reached 108,334.
Currently, Nepal has 45,572 active cases.
