The coronavirus situation in Nepal has changed abruptly and rapidly since April 2021, with resurgence forcing the government to implement various lockdown restrictions again.
Lately, the Nepali Government has decided to cancel all the pre-scheduled examinations of universities that were being organized by following social distance rules.
The Central COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) has taken the decision to this effect during a meeting on Saturday. All the university-level examinations are postponed until further notice in view of sharp use in coronavirus infections across the country, according to the press statement issued by the CCMC.
Other restrictions recommended by the CCMC are:
- Restriction of cross-border movement of foreigners from all land entry points with India
- 14-day quarantine for people arriving in Nepal via air route
- Enforcing lockdown in urban districts that report more than 500 cases and hilly districts that report over 200 cases
- Authorizing local administrators to enforce lockdown in their respective districts if necessary
Local authorities of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur are expected to enforce lockdown as these districts have already reported more than 500 coronavirus cases.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Kathmandu has witnessed 6,521 new infections, the highest in a district. Meanwhile, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts have registered 1,351 and 613 new infection cases as of Saturday.
Some other districts, including Rupanedhi, Banke, Morang, Parsa, Kaski, and Dang, have also witnessed more than 500 cases each.
So far, Nepal has reported 300,119 coronavirus infection cases and 3,164 death cases. Currently, there are 19,382 active cases and 277,573 recovery cases.
