Though the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread alarmingly across all states of Nepal, only 14 districts are reported to be extremely affected by the resurgence.
Issuing a public statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) classified 14 districts, among the total of 77, as the ‘worst-hit districts‘ in the country.
The ‘extremely affected’ districts include Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Rupandehi, Kaski, Banke, Chitwan, Kailali, Parsa, Dang, Morang, Bara, Surkhet, and Banglung.
Amid the rapid spike in infection cases in these districts, the MoHP has advised students not to go to schools. However, a secretary-level meeting held lately did not take any decision regarding the closure of educational institutions amid the second wave.
Likewise, the Ministry also urged people to avoid sports activities, gymnasiums, public worship at temples, fairs, conferences, meetings and gatherings, cinemas, shopping, party palaces, health clubs, and swimming pools.
People are also advised to restrict themselves from going to restaurants and clubs after 7 PM. However, the Ministry has not imposed any new lockdown restrictions.
Meanwhile, the National Examination Board (NEB) has postponed the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) and Grade 12 examinations until further notice in view of the crisis.
As per the schedule, the SEE was supposed to be conducted from May 27, and the Class 12 examinations from June 9.
