The Nepali cricket team that looked confident with a win in their first match against the USA in the World Cup League 2 tournament suffered a huge loss in their next match.
In their second match of the trination series at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman, the Himalayan team incurred a crushing 5-wicket loss against the host nation.
Batting first, Nepal scored only 196 runs losing all its wickets in the allotted 50 overs. A brilliant knock of 90 runs by batsman Asif Sheik was in vain. He scored so in 112 balls with one six and seven fours.
Captain Gyanendra Malla (21 runs), Rohit Paudel (20 runs), and Karan KC (21 runs) tried to score big for Nepal but failed.
A 4-wicket haul by Oman’s Bilal Khan had set the stage for victory.
Chasing the meagre 197-runs target, the Oman team won the match in just 31.1 overs at the loss of 5 wickets.
Jatinder Singh’s mesmerizing century against Nepal gave Oman an emphatic 5-wicket win.
The ‘Player of the Match’ award winner mustered 107 runs in just 62 balls, which featured six 6s and twelve 4s.
Kushal Malla (2/38) and Karan KC (2/52) were the most impressive in an otherwise disappointing bowling effort.
With this defeat, Nepal remains in its sixth position in the table of seven teams. So far, Nepal played 6 matches in which it won 3 and lost 3.
On the other hand, Oman has fortified its top position with the win. Oman won 9 matches and lost 2.
Nepal will be facing the USA on September 17, 2020.
