As a mark of friendship and strong ties between India and Nepal, the Indian Army on Sunday donated one lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Nepal Army.

According to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the nine packages of Covishield vaccines, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII), reached Kathmandu through an Air India flight on Sunday evening.

This year, Nepal has also received one million doses of the Covishield vaccine from India under grant assistance.

In the last two months, Nepal also procured two million doses of the Covishield vaccine, of which one million is yet to be received.

With vaccines received through procurement and grant assistance, Nepal has vaccinated around 1.6 million of its citizens and is expected to inoculate over 70% of the population this year.
