Nepal’s E-comm Amasses NPR 8 Billion As COVID-19 Boosts Online Sales!

Amid the crippled economic activity, the coronavirus pandemic has led to a surge in e-commerce across the global countries, including Nepal.

As the Himalayan country continues to grapple with COVID-19-induced lockdown restrictions, people increasingly ‘went digital,’ purchasing more goods and services online, boosting e-commerce drastically.

Significant pandemic-related boosts in online shopping resulted in e-commerce revenue worth NPR 7.87 billion in the first nine months of the current FY 2020-21, according to the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

A total of 1,140,956 transactions were made through various eCommerce platforms during the mentioned period.

Nepal saw a boom in online transactions mainly after the government enforced a nationwide lockdown on March 24, 2020 during the first wave of the pandemic. The curve is still rising as movement restrictions are back in the country to curb the second wave.
